Work while you Study

You can work while you study in New Zealand. Students are permitted to work maximum for 20 hours a week during their semester and full time during vacations.

 

New Zealand has a range of work opportunities for overseas students, including: Supermarkets, department and clothing stores, cafes, bars and restaurants, hotels and motels, Sales and telemarketing and Administration or Clerical roles.

 

After You studies

If you are a student who has completed a qualification or qualifications in New Zealand, but you do not have a job offer, you may be eligible for a Post-study work visa - open for a maximum of 12 months. Then, when you have found a job, you can apply for a further visa for up to two or three years under the Study to Work category.

 

To be eligible for a Post-study work visa (open) you must:

  • Have successfully completed a qualification in New Zealand that meets the study to work qualification requirements
  • Apply no later than three months (six months if you have completed a doctoral qualification) after the end date of the student visa for that qualification.
  • Provide evidence of a minimum of NZ$4,200 available to maintain yourself during your 12-month stay in New Zealand (we will accept traveler’s cheques or bank documents in your name).

New Zealand Student Visa Entry Requirements

In the New Zealand, generally a student have to have

  • 12 years of education to get admission in undergraduate course.
  • 4 years bachelor’s degree to get admission in Postgraduate courses.
  • If you intend to stay in New Zealand for more than 12 months, you must complete a Medical and Chest X-ray Certificate.

New Zealand Student Visa Major Intakes

Mostly universities & Colleges offered intake is September / March but few universities offer Jan / Feb / April intake also.

 

Admission Documents Requirement

The New Zealand student visa you need depends on your chosen course of study. As a guide, the typical key requirements you will need to meet are:

  • All educational documents including their transcripts.
  • English language proficiency certificate (IELTS).
  • A valid passport (1st + 2nd page)
  • CNIC
  • 2 reference letters from your institute or any teacher

Processing Time for New Zealand Student Visa

Processing times for visa applications are approximately 25 days. You will be contacted by your Immigration Officer if processed before this time. It is appreciated if you do not contact the office within this 25 day period.
